New Mattresses for Saint Aloysius’ Minor Seminary
Saint Aloysius’ Minor Seminary is a boarding school. This means that the students live on campus where they study and eat. They go on Christmas, Easter, and summer vacations, but they are on campus the rest of the time. They follow a scrupulous daily program as part of their training for the priesthood. The school provides beds, but the students are the ones to bring their mattresses, pillows, and bed sheets.
We noticed that some of the students were unable to afford the mattresses. Thus, we had in mind that we could get the mattresses for the school and the students could rent them at a giveaway price ($6) for a year. This initiative was applauded by many of you who donated to realize this dream. We arranged with a company to produce the mattresses at $40.00 each. This amount included the covers for the mattresses and the transportation fare. On Sunday, October 8, 2023, the first set of 75 mattresses was sent to us, and on Sunday, October 22, we got the last set of 75 mattresses giving us a total of 150 mattresses.
I write to sincerely thank all those who donated toward the realization of this project. It will be a great relief for the kids; they will no longer need to carry their mattresses up and down. The parents are very happy and thankful to all those who supported us in this project. Also, accept a big “Thank You” from the bishop of the Diocese of Kumbo, George Nkuo.
The students have expressed their joy at the reception of these mattresses. Presently, they are helping to label and number them. With this, we shall be able to have proper accountability for the mattresses by knowing the mattresses given to students.
Once again, thank you for helping us achieve this dream.
