Repairs to Saint Aloysius’ Minor Seminary, Kitiwum

Saint Aloysius' Minor Seminary, Kitiwum, Diocese of Kumbo, Cameroon, is a Secondary and High School, and also an institution for formation toward the diocesan priesthood. Presently, there are 168 students, 6 permanent teachers who stay on campus, and 26 part-time teachers who live in their homes and walk or pay a motorcycle to school. There 11 auxiliary staff members and three priests: the Rector- father Emmanuel Fale, the spiritual director- Father Cornelius Safe, and the bookkeeper- Fr. Desmus Kerman. We have friendly neighbors who come at times to help us to work in the school farm.

Since the inception of this Minor Seminary in 1993, it has produced over 100 priests who are now serving not just the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda, but all of Cameroon and around the world at large. Some are in the US right now studying and serving there. The projects of the school are to help give a conducive environment for studies for these young ones who desire to become priests. The projects include:

1. Renovating the buildings: IN PROCESS The chapel roof has been repaired. Mold remediation, provision of toilets and the extension of the sacristy, painting and fixing the ceiling are in process. Renovations to the classrooms and dormitories are PENDING.

2. Upgrading the solar system: COMPLETED! Praise God and thank you especially Dr. Joseph for your kind and generous donation as we have upgraded the solar and the students are now able to study at night. We have a more stable and reliable electrical system as a result.

3. Getting a new generator: PENDING The one we have is old and parts are giving way leading to too much consumption of diesel and it is very expensive to run. Right now we are in need of donations for repairs.

4. Upgrading the plumbing system: COMPLETED! Praise God and thank you Mary Ann and Jack for your generous donation that enabled us to make these repairs. Some of the pipes had rusted, and this gave the water a brown color even when it had been treated. Students have been developing rashes from bathing with this water. But now the old rusty iron pipes have been replaced by new rubber piping and the kids have new showers toilets and sinks. In addition the septic tanks have been drained and fitted with new slabs to cover them. The water is running clean again!

Your support to these projects will help the young ones, some who will become priests, and the majority will remain good Christians. They will serve not just Kumbo diocese, but the world at large. The church is universal. When I became a priest, I did not know I was going to serve my good people in the US. It was a great joy serving you, and I pray that some of the kids who are passing through my hands will eventually serve you as well. God bless you abundantly for your generosity and replenish the source of your income double or triple . Amen.
