Church Project Update
UPDATES OF THE SAINT MARTIN DE PORRES
CATHOLIC CHURCH PROJECT IN THE VILLAGE OF NKANCHI
OCTOBER 20, 2022
I traveled back to Cameroon from the USA on August 7-8, 2021, that is, I left the United States of America on August 7, and arrived in Cameroon on August 8, 2021. Before then, friends of mine in the US and the people of my village, NKanchi, and the Diocese of Kumbo knew of my determination to carry out some projects. Back in 2018, I had announced to the people my desire to build a bridge, to construct a church, to continue to do whatever would be of benefit to the community, like paying school fees for the neediest kids, and depending on where the Bishop would assign me, also to carry out some projects that would benefit the institution, as long the means would be available.
When I finally came back to the diocese last August 2021, and with the support that I already got from friends, it was ripe for me to start with the Church project in Nkanchi Village while carrying out some other projects at Saint Aloysius’ Minor Seminary (SAMS), Kitiwum, where I have been assigned to work. The people of Nkanchi village and the diocese of Kumbo at large expressed their gratitude to all those who have donated to support the Church Project and other projects.
On behalf of all the people who are benefitting from the projects because of your donations, I sincerely expressed my gratitude to you for your continuous support to see to it that this Church Project eventually reaches the finishing touches. On account of this, I desire to give a rundown of all that has taken place regarding the Church Project and where it is now. Below is a tabular presentation of all that has been done to the point of finishing the foundation.
Thus, the first phase of the work was the drawing of the plan, distribution plan, and showing the principal view of the Church on paper. Then, the clearing of the site by the people of Nkanchi village and providing some materials like sand and stones for work to begin. The second phase of the Church Project comprised the pecking of the foundation, getting the materials necessary for the foundation, the digging and the building of the foundation up to the finished point. Now, the third phase of the Church Project just began with the molding of blocks. It will continue with the raising of the walls etc.
A solid foundation keeps the building intact, and unshaken. It is amazing to know that the Church Project has reached this level despite the ongoing Anglophone crisis. If not for the crisis building materials would have been far cheaper. The prices of materials are exorbitantly high, and it is like there is no price control anymore. Despite all this, we have been able to finish the foundation of the Church.
I sincerely thank all the donors who have made things to happen, I see what is said in 1 John 3:16-18 come true in you: “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Chris laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” The people who are benefitting and who will benefit from these projects will do so because of your love demonstrated “with actions and in truth.” May God continue to bless and reward you all the days of your life.
