Saint Aloysius’ Minor Seminary: School News and Notes

On Thursday, August 29, 2024, the school reopened for the academic Year 2024/2025. On this first day, we recorded 150 students on campus - the highest number of students ever to turn out on day one of reopening since 2021. To prepare adequately for the academic year, they began with the annual retreat on Sunday, September 1, 2024. The retreat is to help them channel their joys and sorrows to God and ask for his guidance and protection, especially during this time of conflict in west Cameroon.

SAMS students during school retreat

Out of the 26 students in the final year for the academic year 2023/2024, 22 students applied to continue with formation toward the priesthood. In comparison, Birocol had 23 students in the final year, and only 4 students applied to continue. The bishops lauded the effort of SAMS Kitiwum for maintaining lofty standards.

SAMS student Shiyla Basil Fonyuy awarded laptop for achieving perfect scores.

SAMS had a student on the honor roll for the GCE Advanced Level. His name is Shiyla Basil Fonyuy. He had an A in all five subjects, scoring 25/25 points. We rewarded him with a new laptop.

One student failed at this level, and this is the first time someone has failed in the final year since I became the Rector of SAMS. However, the results were among the best in three years regarding grades and the number of subjects the students succeeded in.

The bishops rated SAMS the best minor seminary in all aspects of formation in the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda. We continue to praise and thank God who makes all things possible.
